HIMANTHALINE

The potential of the marine resources titrated for your cosmetic applications

INCI

AQUA, HIMANTHALIA ELONGATA EXTRACT

DESCRIPTION

HIMANTHALINE
Himanthaline is a liquid extract, extracted from Himanthalia elongata after purification by ultrafiltration.

The fresh harvested plants are frozen, ground in tiny particles and centrifuged.
Himanthalia elongata is an alga in the order Fucales, also known by the common names thongweed, sea thong and sea spaghetti. It is found in the north east Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea.

Himanthalia elongata is a common brown alga of the lower shore. The thallus is at first a small flattened or saucer-shaped disc up to three centimetres wide with a short stalk. In the autumn or winter, long thongs grows from the centre of this, branching dichotomously a number of times. They grow fast and can reach up to two metres by the following summer when they become mature. They bear the conceptacles, the reproductive organs, and begin to decay when the gametes have been released into the water. The discs live for two or three years.

The ultrafiltrate (10 kDa) provided a liquid extract, rich in active compounds. The specific extraction process allows to collect gently all the constituents of the cells of Himanthalia elongata. The extract is further purified but no additive (except preservative) or solvent is added to the product.

The Himanthalia we use is coming from the Iroise sea, located in Brittany, the very heart of the resource, washed by waters of an exceptional quality.

Himanthalia elongata is grown out at sea and appear as sub-marine forests, waved by the streams.
