SESAMULS® WO is a water in oil emulsifier obtained from renewable sources through the esterifcation of polyglycerin-6 to olive oil fatty acids whereas the natural Malic Acid acts as a catalyst.

It allows rich emulsions with a nourishing feel. Easy to use, also in cold processing, and well-tolerated by the skin, it is remarkably versatile in terms of formulation and compatibility with all active ingredients

SESAMULS® WO is ideal in sun care products for mineral filters dispersion and improves makeup products shine.

EFFICACY TESTS

SESAMULS® WO IN SUNCARE APPLICATION

Three water-in-oil (WO) suncare systems with theoretical SPF 30 were formulated using mineral UV filters and the respective emulsifier at recommended concentrations. Spectrophotometric analysis of static SPF (Fig. 1) shows that OLEAMULS® WO enhances SPF, ensuring adequate protection.

A sunscreen is labeled “water resistant” (WR) if its SPF effectiveness remains above 50% of the initial SPF after two 20-minute water immersions. SESAMULS® WO outperforms the benchmark in maintaining water resistance, approaching the maximum level (Fig. 2).

PROPERTIES
  • Nourishing Emulsions for Sensitive and Dry Skins: Ideal for emulsions manufactured via cold processing technique as an alternative to Water in Oil (WO) PEG emulsifiers. Emulsions are easily absorbed, non-greasy, and non-sticky despite being rich in natural lipids.
  • Stabilizes Emulsion Viscosity: Stabilizes viscosity even in the presence of lipid phases with different polarities without requiring co-emulsifiers. Compatible under extreme anionic and cationic conditions across a wide range of pH values (pH 3-9).
  • Powder Dispersion and Shine Enhancement: Facilitates the dispersion of various powders, from titanium dioxide to iron oxides, and enhances the shine of make-up products.
  • Solubility: Soluble in ethanol, mineral and vegetal oils, fatty acids, fatty alcohols, and their derivatives.
